BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AgPR) | GROWMARK and FS are proud to share that second and third place in the Illinois Wheat Association’s 2023 Wheat Yield Contest was won by farmers using FS InSPIRE brand wheat. Second place was won by Triple P Farms of Effingham County, Illinois, with a yield of 142.84 bushels per acre, using FS InSPIRE wheat seed variety FS 603 with a conventional tillage practice. Third place was secured by wheat farmer Kurt Sudholt of Clinton County, Illinois, with a yield of 141.88 bushels per acre, using FS InSPIRE wheat seed variety FS 624 and a no-till tillage practice.
“The FS InSPIRE wheat variety FS 603 gave Triple P Farms an edge with grain quality, test weight, and standability, and were the keys to success on their seven-acre semi-load yield chaser entry,” said Matt Probst, a certified crop specialist with South Central FS. Gateway FS Crop Specialist, Tyler Voss, worked with farmer Kurt Sudholt in Clinton County to achieve third place in the contest. “FS InSPIRE FS 624 has been a great yielding wheat for us, with good test weight. Kurt’s attention to detail in his high-management wheat program helped push its performance again this year. It’s the best wheat he’s raised, and I’m sure he’ll be pushing for more next year,” said Voss.
